atha - then, now; brahmA - the one impersonal Universal spirit manifested as a personal creator and the first of the triad of personal gods (the four- faced Brahma whose wife is Saraswati); Atmajyh - born of or begotten by one’s self, by sons; devyh - by gods as heavenly or shining ones, class of deities; prajesyh - by gods presiding over the procreation of offspring; Avritah - surrounded; aByagAt - came down; Bavah - Siva; ca - and; BUta Bavyesah - BUta - beings; Bavya - coming into existence, future; Isah - Lord, Lord of existing, going to come into existence; yayuh - proceeded; BUtagaNyh - multitude of spirits or ghosts; vritah - surrounded; indrah - god of atmosphere and sky, Lord of rain; marudBih - by gods of wind or air; BagavAn - Lord; Adityah - sun god; vasavah - class of gods, eight in number; aSwinau - the two divinities that appear in the sky before dawn. dvAraka - the city of Sri Krishna; upasamjagmuh - had gone; sarve - all; Krishna; didrikshavah - desiring to see; vapushA - by appearance, figure; yena - by which; BagavAn - the Lord; nAnA - different; loka - of worlds; manoramah - charming, attractive, pleasant; yasas - glory, renown, fame, vitanvan - pervading, extending, spreading; lokeshu - in the worlds; sarva Loka - of all the world; mala - impurities, sin; Apaham - destroying;

All  reached Dwaraka with a desire to see Sri Krishna, by which charming fiture, the lord is spreading his fame of destroying the impurities and sins in the world.

tasyAm viBrAja mAnAyAm samridhAyAm mahARishiBih I
vyacakshata avitriptAkshAh krishnam adButa darSanam II

tasyAm - in her; viBrAjamAnAyAm - shining forth, being radiant; samriddhAyAm - of abundance, plenty of; mahARishiBih - by the great sages and saints; vyAcakshata - had looked at, had regarded; avitriptAkshah - unsatisfied; krishna - of Krishna; adButa - wonderful, marvellous, supernatural; darSanam - experiencing;

The sages also unsatisfied with experiencing thy supernatural abundant radiant of looking at Sree Krishna .

svarga udyAna udBavyh mAlaih chAdayantah yadu uttamam I
gIrBih ca citrapadArtha aBistu shtuvuh jagadIswaram II

svarga - of heaven, heavenly; udyAna - garden royal garden; udBavyh - produced coming from; mAlagyh - by garlands; achAdayantah - covered; yaduttamam - the best of the Yadus, Sri Krishna; gIrBih - by words and verses, songs of praise; citrapAda - full of various graceful words or expressions; artha - meaning, manner, kind; aBistushtvuh - praised, extolled; jagadIswaram - the Lord of the Worlds;

Covered the best of yadus (Sri Krishna) with garlands of flowers from heaven and praised and extolled with words and songs of different kinds.

yat cintayate antar hridi BAva yuktaih mumukshuBih karmamayoh II

natAhsma - (we) bow and salute; te - to you; padAravindam - lotus feed; buddhi - thought; indriya - sense organs or knowledge; prANa - life breath; manoh - of mind; vacoBih - with words; yat - which; cintayate - considers, thinks, bring before mind; antar hridi - inside the heart; BAva - reality, truth, devotion; yuktyh - by inference and skill; mumukshiBih - by those desiring liberation or release; karmamayoh - of actions; upAsAt - by worship;

Oh Lord! We bow down to your lotus feet by thought, senses, life and mind, which we think in our hearts, the reality by devotion and skill of those made of karma by worship.

tvam mAyayA triguNayA Atmani druviBAvyam I
vyktam srijayasi avasi lumpasi tadguNasthah II
na etyh BavAn ajita karmaBih ajyate vy I
yah sway sukhe avyavahite aBiratah anavalyah II

tvam - you; mAyayA - by your power; triguNayA - by three qualities (sattva, Rajas, tama); Atmani - in the mind; durviBAvyam - to be perceived or understood; vyaktam - manifested, appeared; srijasi - create; avasi - protect, govern; lumpasi - cause to disappear, take away; tad - that; gunasthAh - those with triguNAs; na - not; etyh - with these; BavAn - you; ajita - not restrained, controlled; karmaBih - with actions; ajyate - moved into; vy - indeed; yah - who, which; sway - of themselves; sukha - happiness; avyavahite - uninterrupted, not separated; aBiratAh - contented with, engaged in; anavadyah - irreproachable, faultless;

It is not conceivable or understood, you being in them create and dissolve nature made up of triad of satva Rajas and tamas qualities. They move, enjoy happiness or unhappiness without break with you being faultless indeed.

Suddhih nriNAm natu tat IDhya durASayAnAm vidyA SrutA adhyayana dAna tapah kriyABih I

Suddhih - purification, holiness, accurate knowledge; nriNAm - for beings, for men, for humans; na - notl tu - indeed, tat - that; IDhya - implored, praised, glorified; durASayAnAm - of malicious, of evil minded; vidyA - acquiring knowledge; SrutA - listening, making; adhyayana - learning, study, reading (of Vedas); dAna - giving, gift, teaching; tapah - penance; kriyABih - by performance of religious rites or ceremonies, expiatory rites; sa - that; tu - indeed; AtmAnAm - of the lord Naaraayana; RishiBh - you, the best or most excellent; te - they; yaSasi - renown, fame, reputation, glory; pravriddha - full grown, augmented; sat - relaity, good, of truth; SraddhayA - faith, strong and vehement desire, belief in divine revelation; SravaNa - hearing; samBritayA - placed, entire, concentrated, endowed with; yathA - in what way; syAt - it may be, perhaps, perchance it is;

Purity will not happen by evil minded desire, learning, vedaas, gifting, penance or performance of religious rites. That in fact by augmented faith in Naarayana’s glory, learning and hearing with all concentration.

astu - let it be; nah - for us; tu - indeed; anghrih - foot, the root; asuBa - impure, inauspicious, unfortunate; ASaya - desirable, wished for; dhUmaketuh - falling star, smoke bannered; kshemAya - for final emancipation; yah - who; muniBih - by saints, ascetics, monks, devotees; Ardra - wet, full of feeling; hridah - of the heart; Uhya mAnAh - being deliberated upon, comprehended, inferred; yah - who; sAtvikyh - virtuous, pure; sama - similar; viBUtiBih - manifestation of might or power; vyUha - appearance, manifestation; arcitah - worshipped; savanaSah - at each of the libations of the three times of the day; sama - equal to, the same; vikramyh - by lord Vishnu; ca - also;

Let those feet which are comprehended by sages of devotion for emancipation, and those forms of manifestation of Lord Naaraayana  worshipped always by pious devotees, be a flag of fire for our inauspicious wishes.

yah - which; cintyate - direct the thoughts towards, find out, think of; prayate - with pious holy devout; pANiBih - by hands; adhvara - of sacrifice; agnau - in the fire; trayyA - of the three Vedas; nirukta - explanation, definition; vidhina - by way, manner, rule; svahavih - oblations of clarified butter; grihItvA - having taken up; adhyAtma - relations between the Supreme and the individual soul; yoga - zeal, endeavor, diligence; uta - also, and; yogiBih - by devotees, sages, contemplative saints; AtmamAyA - of the power of Naaraayanna; jijnAsuBih - by those desiring to know; parama - the highest; BAgavatyh - by devotion to Naaraayana; parIshTah - praise;

The feet which directed the thoughts towards Naaraayana with oblation of clarified butter made as ruled in Vedas with pious hands taking the ghee of oblation into the sacrificial fire. By the highest devotees desiring to know the with diligence and praise the power of Naaraayana.

Yah supraNItam amuyA arhaNam AdadAnah BUyAt sadA anghri aSuBa Asaya dhUmaketuh II

paryusTayA - by old, faded, withered; patitayA - by fallen (morally), wicked, degraded, outcast; vanamalaya - by our wearing a garland of flowers - Vishnu or Krishna, garland of flowers or chaplet worn by Krishna; iyam - this one; samspardhinI - rivalry, jealousy; BagavatI - divine or adorable one; pratipakshavit - rival; SrIh - name of Lakshmi, consort of Vishnu, also represents intellect, understanding; yah - who, which (of many); supranItam - followed guidance in the right direction; amuya - by her; arhaNam - worshipping, treating with respect; AdadAnah - drawing something or someone close to one’s self, taking away or taking off; BUyAt - to be purified; sadA - always, ever, perpetually, continually; anghri - feet; aSuBa - inauspicious, bad; Asaya - seat, place; dhUmaketuh - having smoke as a banner or sign;

The feet worshipped by Laxmi as if competing with the falling garland be the banner of smoke to sins.

ketuh trivikramasatah tripatatpatAkah yah te Baya aBaya karah asura deva camvoh I
svargAya sAdhushu khaleshu itarAya BUmnah pAdah punAtu BagavAn jagatAm agham nah II

ketuh - banner; trivikramasatah - of the three steps of Vishnu by which he strode over the three worlds as Vamana; tripatat patAkah - flying the three fold flag; yah - which; te - they; Baya - fear; aBaya - fearless; karah - the act of doing or making; asura - demon; deva - devas; camoh - armies; swargAya - for heaven; sAdhushu - of the virtuous, of good beings; khaleshu - mischievous or bad; itarAya - for others, low, vile; BUmnah - generally, usually; pAdah - geet; punAtu - purify; jagatAn - of the world; agham - sin; nah- for us;

The feet which are the flag of Vaamana which slided the three worlds, which cause to the armies of the asuraas fear and devas the fearlessness, which generally cause the heaven to virtuous and the other to bad. May purify the sins of the worlds for us.

nasya OtagAva iva yasya vaSah Bavanti devAh ca yah anu budhAyushi rajyamAnAh I
kAlasya te prakriti pUrushayoh parasya sam nah tanotu caraNah purushottamasya II

nasya - of the nose; otagAva (ota - addressed, invoked, summoned), master, director; iva - like; yasya - whose; vaSyah - being under control, obedient to another’s will; Bavanti - abide; devAh - god; ca - also; yah - who; anubudhAyushi - anubudh - to awake, recollect, learn (by information); Ayushi - duration of life, active power, vital power, vigor, health; rajyamAnAh - illuminating, being charmed by, being greatly excited, exult; kAlaya - of time; te - they; prakriti - nature, material world, personified will of purusha; pUrusha - Supreme soul of the universe, Vishnu; parasya - of the Highest, of the Lord; sam - happiness and welfare; nah - for us; tanotu - extend, spread, direct towards; caranAh - the feet; purushottamasya - of NaaraayaNa;

The feet of Naaraayana by which presiding deities of indriyas who are the cause of experience of happiness and unhappiness are under the control of Lord like the nose or breathing and time which is the coordination of nature and supreme direct towards our happiness and welfare.

asya asi hetuh udaya stithi samyamAnAm avyukta jIva mahatAm api kAlamAtrah I
sa ayam triNABih akhila apacaye pravrittah kAlah gaBIraraya uttama pUrushahtvam II

asya - of this (universe); hetuh - cause; udaya - coming into existence; stithi - continued being; samyamam - destruction of the universe; avyakta - universal spirit - Vishnu, not manifest, imperceptible; jivA - of Being, living or personal soul; mahatAm - of sacred knowledge; api - even; kAlamAtrah - element of Time alone, of Lord only; ayam - this; trinABih - three navels, supporting the three worlds, a year of three seasons of four months each; akhila - all; apacaya - decay, decline, diminution; pravrittah - engaged in, occupied with, set out; kAlah - Siva, Rudra, Time; gaBIra - inscrutable, uninterrupted, inexhaustible; rayah - vehemence, zeal, ardor, impetuosity; uttama - highest, superior; purusha - supreme spirit; tvam - you;

You are the cause, existence and continued being and destruction of this universe. The unmanifest, personal soul and sacred knowledge are elements of time only which is set to diminution of universe with inscrutable vehemence. You are the highest supreme spirit.

 

Sloka 16


tvattah pradhAnam adhikritya pumAm svavIryam dhatte mahAntam iva garBam amogha vIryah I
so ayam tvayA anugata Atmana ANdakOSam hymam sasarja bahi AvaraNyh upetam II

tvattah - by you; pradhAnam - originator, primary germ, original source of the visible or material universe, prakriti or Lakshmi; adhikritya - having placed at the head, having made the chief subject; puman - the primeval man as the soul and original source of the universe, NaaraayaNa, the personal and animating principle in men and other beings, supreme being, soul of the universe; svavIryam - one’s own power, energy, vigor, virility; dhatte - place, lay in or on,bestow; mahAntam - great (in space, time, quantity), supreme; iva - like; garBam - inner apartment, interior chamber; amogha - irility, power; sah - he; ayam - this; tvaya - by your; anugata - following; Atmana - by your; aNdakasam - mundane egg; hymam - golden, consisting of or made of gold; sasarja - emitted, created; bahi - outside; AvaraNyh - by coverings, shields; upetam - taken one’s self to, arrived at, turned towards;

Having placed at the head Lakshmi, the nature the original source of material universe, the supreme being named Naaraayana placed his own productive energy and power into the great egg. That following your golden universal egg with all outer coverings.
Note: at the time of the great annihilation the supreme soul known as nArAyaNa lies down with Lakshmi the nature which is the original source of material universe and creates universal golden egg, along with Gayatri and bestowed the great power of creation to Mahattatva the four faced Brahma. From Gayatri known as SraddhA, the ‘I’ consciousness or AhamkAra Sesha came out.

arthAn jushan api hrishIkapate na liptah ye anye svatah parihritAn api biByati sma II

tat - that; sathushah - immovable stability; jagatah - of moving the world; BavAn - you; adhIsah - lord or master over; yau - whose; mayA - by desire or power; utha - arising, originating, derived from; guNa - chief quality of all existing beings i.e. sattva, rajas and tamas (goodness, passion, ignorance or darkness); vikriyayA - modification, change, transformation; upanItAm - initiated; arthAn- objects of sense; jushan - enjoying, undergoing, suffering; api - even; hrishIkapate - hrishIka - organ of sense, pate - in the master, lord, ruler; na - not; liptah - defiled, joined, connected; ye - who; anye - the others; svatah - from one’s own, one’s own accord; parihritAm - abandoned, taken, what has been wrapped around, put on, avoided; api - even; biByatisma - feared, was anxious about;

You are the lord and master of all the moving and non-moving world as at your wish the modifications in the nature are initiated. You, the master of organs of sense in beings, even though existing in them and experiencing, are not connected with. In others like sages (like Sanaka and others) it is wrapped by yourself and otherwise it causes fear.

smAya avaloka lava darSita BAvahAri BrU maNdala prahita saurata mantra mantra SauNdyh I
patni astu shodaSa sahasram ananga bANyh yasya indriyam vimathirtum kuhakyh na Sakuh II

smAya - with a smile; avaloka - look, glance; lava - a little; darSita - shown, displaed; BAvahAri - BAva - sentiment, feeling, intention; hAri - captivating, charming, beautiful; BrUmaNdala - arch of the eyebrow; prahita - stirred up, urged on; saurata - relating to sexual enjoyment; mantra - charm, incantation; SauNdyh - with skill and familiarity; patni - wife; astu - be; shodasa - sixteen; sahasram - thousand; ananya -  Kamadeva, god of love, ether, sky, mind; bANyh - by arrows; yasya - whose; indriyam - semen, virile, virile power; vimathitum - perplex, bewilder, disperse; kuhakyh - by tricks, by juggling; na - not; Sakuh - be capable, competent for;

With the  alluring glances displayed a little at the arch of eyes provoking sexual enjoyment, the sixteen thousand wives are not able to move the virile power of Sree Krishna by their tricks of arrows of Kaamadeva.

biBrat tava amrita katha udvahAh trilokyAh I
pAda vaneja saritah SamalAni hantumI
SnuSravam SrutiBih anghrijam anga sangyh I
tIrtha dvayam Suchishadah tad upaspriSanti II

biBrat - cherishing, hearing; tava - your; amrita - immortal, imperishable; kathe - in the story, in the account; udvAh - bearing up, support, lifting up; trilokyAh - the three worlds; pAda - foot; vaneja - born out of (woods); saritah - stream, river; samalani - impurity, sin; hantun - to destroy,  cause to ward off; AnuSravam - derived from Vedas or tradition or hearing; SrutiBih - by Vedas and Upanishads; anghrijan - born from the feet; angasangyh - by bodily contact; tIrtha - sacred object, object of veneration; dvayam - couple, pair; Sucishadah - holy, virtuous, purity; tad - that; upaspriSanti - (they) reach up;

They cherish the water (river Ganga) flowing out of your feet destroys sins. We hear from tradition, touching that couple of water out of your body is purifying.

Sloka 20


bAdarAyaNa uvaca - Badarayana said:

iti aBishtUya vibudhyh sa Isah Satadhritih harim I
aByaBAshata govindam prNamya ambaram Asritah II

iti - thus; aBishtUya - praising; vibudhyh -by wise men; sa - he; Isah - lord, master; satyadhritih - holding fast to the truth, strictly truthful, also name of a rishi; Satadhritih - name of Brahma, having 100 sacrifices; harim - NaaraayaNa; aByaBAshata - spoke, addressed; govindam - Krishna, VishNu; praNamya - having bowed down before, make obeisance to; ambaram - sky; Asritah - taken to;

Thus praised by the wisemen he Brahma spoke to Vishnu having made obeisance to Krishna had taken towards sky.

 

Brahma uvAca - Brahma said:

BUmeh - of the earth; BAra - burden, load; avatarAya - descent, ring down, removal; purA - formerly before; vignApitah - communicated, made known by; praBo - O Lord!; tvam - you; asmAbih - by us; aSesha - entirely, wholly, all; Atmah - self; tat - that; tathA - in that way; upapAditam - accomplished, performed;

Having been requested by us before, O Lord, you accomplished yourself in that way to remove the burden of earth.

 

Sloka 22


dharmah ca sthApitah satsu satysangheshu vy tvayA I
kIrtih ca dikshu vikshiptA sarvalokamala ApahA II


dharmah - righteousness, virtue, justice; ca - also; sthApitah - founded, instituted, set up; satsun - among the good and virtuous people, sages; satyasangheshu - among the community of sages; vy - truly; tvayA - by you or of you; kIrti - fame, glory, renown; ca - also; dikshu - in all directions; vikshipta - cast, dispersed; sarva - all, whole; loka - of the world; mala - sin, impurities; ApahA - removing, destroying;

Virtue was instituted indeed among the virtuous people and communities by your glory which was cast in all directions destroying the impurities of all the worlds.

Sloka 23


avtIrya yadoh vamse biBrat rUpam anuttamam I
karmANi udAra vrittAni hitAni jagatoh akrithAh II

avatIrya - having descended, having incarnated; yadoh - of Yadus; vamse - in the lineage, family; biBrat - maintained, cherished, bore; fUpam - form and figure; anuttamam - excellent, incomparably the best; karmAni - deeds, udAra - lofty, great, noble; vtittAni - actions; hitam - welfare, good; jagatoh - of the universe; akrithAh - had done;

Having incarnated into yadu lineage took to excellent figure and had done great actions and deeds for the good of all worlds.

 

Sloka 24


yAnite caritAni Isa manushyAh sAdhavah kalau I
SriNvatah kIrtayantah ca tarishyanti anjasA tamah II

yAni - whichever course; caritAni - deeds, acts, adventures; Isa - O Lord; manushAh - men, human beings; sAdhavah - good people, virtuous men; kalau - in the age of Kali; SriNvantah - learning, studying, hearing (people); kIrtayantah - glorigying, praising, reciting; ca - and; tarishyanti - (they) cross over, accomplish, gain, acquire; anjasA - quickly, soon, instantly; tamah - ignorance, darkness, illusion;

Oh Lord! Learning and hearing about and praising what ever your deeds the virtuous people cross over the ignorance and illusion quickly.

yadu vamSe avatItNasya Bavatah purushottama I
sarat satam vyatIyAya panca vimsA adhikam praBo II

avatIrNasya - of thy incarnation; Bavatah - your; purushottama - the best of purushas; sarat - autumn (years); satam - hundred; vyatIyAya - passed away, gone beyond; panca - five; vimsa - twenty; pancavimsa - twenty five; sarat satam pancavimSa - one hundred twenty five years; adhikam - extra; praBo - O Lord

After incarnating into yadu lineage, one hundred and additional twenty five years have passed O Lord.

na adhunA te akhila AdhAra devakAryah avaSeshitam I
kulam ca vipra SApena nashTaprAyam aBUt idam II

na - no; adhunA - now, at this time; te - your; akhila - all; AdhAra - support; devakaryAh - divine works, purpose of gods; avaSeshitam - remaining, to be completed or finished; kulam - community, race, family; vipra SApena - vipra - of Brahmin or sages; SApena - by the curse of, oath taken to destroy; nashta - perished, destroyed; prAyam - almost, as it was; aBUt - had become; idam - this;

There is no divine purpose remaining to be finished with your support and the community (of yadus) has become almost perished by the curse of the sages.

tatah svadhAma paramam viSasva yadi manyase I
Salokam lokapAlAn nah pAhi vykunTha kinkarAn II

tatah  - therefore; paramam - the highest, primary, most excellent; svadhAmam - your abode or seat; viSasva - (you) may enter in, go into; yadi - if; manyase - think (you); salokam - that world; lokapAlAn - guardian deities; nah - us; pAhi - may guard and protect; vykunTha - of Vykuntha; kinkarAn - servants;

Therefore, if you think, may enter your that highest abode or loka and protect the guardian deities and us the servants of Vykuntha.

samstutah - praised by; BagavAn - Lord nArAyaNa; iththam - in this manner; vibudhyh - by deities; padmaja - born of a lotus, Brahma; Adi - another; pratinandya - Lord Vishnu; Aha - said; tAn - to them; rAjan - king; mAyAmanuja - man filled with illusions; Iswarah - Lord Naaraayana;

Thus praised in this manner  by Brahma and other deities, Lord Naaraayana replied with happiness to them, this illusory man - the Lord.

avadhAritam etan mey yadAththa vibudheswarAh I
Kritam vah kAryam akhilam BUmeh BArah avatIritah II

avadhAritam - has been held (in mind), has been applied ( in mind); etan - this; mey - in my; yadAththa - as it was; vibudheswarAh - the best of wise sages; kritam - has been accomplished; vah - your; kAryam - object, purpose; akhilam - all; BUmeh - of the earth; bArah - burden; AvatIritam - has been brought down;

It has been held in my mind, this as it was, by the wise sages. All your purpose is accomplished and the burden of earth has been brought down.

 

Sloka 30


tad idam yAdava kulam vIrya Saurya Sriya uddhatam I
lokam jighrikhati Urdhvam mey velAm iva mahA ArNavah II

tad - that; idam - thus; yAdava - of the Yadus; kulam - race or community; vIrya - valor, prowess; Sauryam - might, strength; Sriya - prosperity, high position; uddhitam - raised, built up; lokam - the world; jighrikshati - desires, wishes; Urdhvam - upwards to Vykuntha; mey - my; velAm - boundary, coast, shore; iva - like; mahA - great; ArNavah - ocean;

That this yAdava community has been built up with might, valor and prosperity and wishes to conquer the world as a limit for ocean.

 

Sloka 31


yadi  asamhritya druptAnAm yadUnAm vipulam kulam I
gantAsm anena lokah ayam ulbaNena vinangkshyati II

yadi - if; asamhritya - without destroying; druptAnAm - (of) arrogant, proud; yadUnAm - of the Yadus; viputAm - extensive; kulam - community; gantAsmi - having gone away; anena - by then; lokam - world; ayam - this; ulbaNena - immense, excessive; vinangkshyati - (that) will be lost, destroyed;

If i go away without destroying this extensive arrogant yadu community the world will be lost.

 

Sloka 32


idAnIm nASa Arabdhah kulasya dvija SAptah I
yAsyAmi Bavanam brahman etad ante tava anagha II

idAnIm - now, at this moment, in this case, just now, even now; nASa - destruction; Arabdhah - has commenced; kulasya - of the community; dvija - of Brahmins or sages; SApatah - by a curse; yAsyAmi - ( I ) will proceed; Bavanam - home, Vykuntha ; brahman - O Brahma; 
etad - this; ante - in the end of; tava - your; anagha - sinless, handsome;

The destruction of community has commenced by the curse of brahmins and I will proceed to vykuntha at the end of this.

 

Sree Suka uvAca - Sri Suka said:

iti aktah loka nAthena svayamBUh praNipatya tam I
sah devagaNyh devah svam dhAma samapdyata II

iti - thus; akta - characterized; lokanathena - by the lord of the universe; svayamBUh - Brahma; praNipatya - having bowed respectfully; tam - Him (Lord); sah - along with; devagaNyh - by the group of gods; devah - Brahma; svam - his own; dhAma - abode; samapadyata - had gone;

Thus characterized by the lord of universe Brahma having saluted had gone to his abode along with the group of devas.


Sloka 34


atha tasyAm maha utpAtAn dvAravatyAm samuththitAn I
vilokya BagavAn Aha yadu vridhdhAn samAgatAn II

atha - then; tasyAm - in them; mahA - great; utpAtAn - portentous or unusual phenomenal boding calamity; dvAravatyAm - in DvAraka; samuththitAn - sprung up, arisen; vilokya - having seen; BagavAn - Sree Krishna; Aha - said; yadu - of the clan of the Yadus; vridhdhAn - old men or wise men; samAgatAn - who had come;

Then, in that Dwaaraka, great unusual happenings arisen having seen Lord Krishna said to the wise men assembled there.


Sri BagavAn uvAca - Sri Krishna said:

Ete vy sumahA utpAtAhi utthishtanti iha sarvatah I
SApasya nah kulasya AsIt brahmaNeByo duratyayah II

Ete - these; vy -indeed; sumahA - very great; utpAtAh - happenings; hi - truly; utthishtanti - arising; iha - here; sarvatah - everywhere; SApasya - of the curse; nah - our; kulasya - of clan; AsIt - (they) happen; brAhmaNeByo - of the Brahmins; duratyaya - unsurmountable;

These are indeed the happenings truly arisen out of the curse of brahmins to our clan and they are insurmountable.

 

Sloka 36


na vastavyam iha asmABih jijIvishuBh AryakAh I
praBAsam sumahA puNyam yAsyAmah adyeva mA ciram II

na - not; vastavyam - lived in; iha - here; asmABih - by us; jijIvishuBih - desiring to live; AryakAh - respectable men; praBAsam - name of a celebrated place of pilgrimage on the west coast, near Dvaraka; sumaha - very great; puNyam - merit; yAsyAmah - (we) will be giving; adya - now; eva - only; mAciram - not long;

It is not worthy of living here by us the respectable people desirous of long life. We proceed now only to the very meritorious prabhasam.

 

Sloka 37


yatra snAtva daksha SApAt grihItah yakshamaNah udurAt I
vimuktah kilbishAt sadyah Beje BUyah kalA udayam II

yatra - where; snAtva - having bathed; daksha - of Daksha; SApAt - from the curse of; grihItah - obtained; yakshmaNah - consumption, pulmonary disease; UdurAt - moon; vimuktah - set free, escaped from; kilbishAt - sin, disease; sadyah - immediately, quickly, at once; Beje - turned, assumed, experienced, fell into, resorted to; BUyah - again, anew, mostly, generally; kalA - one sixteenth part of the moon; udayam - rising; kalolayam -   waning and waxing;

Where the moon, having bathed got free immediately from disease obtained from the curse of Daksha and fell back to waning and waxing.


Sloka 38


vayam ca tasmin Aplutya tarpayitvA pitrUn surAn I
Bojayitva ushija viprAn nAnAguNavatA andhasA II

vayam - we; ca - too; tasmin - in that; Aplutya - having bathed; tarpayitvA - having satisfied with libations; pitrUn - forefathers; surAn - gods; BojayitvA - having fed; ushija - having started the sacred fire; viprAn - brahmins; nAnA - different, all kinds; guNavatAn - with good qualities, virtues, merits; andhasA - by food;

We also having bathed herein, and satiated with libations the forefathers and gods and fed with good food of different qualities.

 

Sloka 39


teshu dAnAni pAtreshu sradhdhayaA arpya mahanti vy I
vrijinAni tarishyAmah dAnyh nauBih iva arNavam II

teshu - in them; dAnAni - actis of giving liberally; pAtreshu - to worthy brahmins; SradhdhayA - with faith and trust; arpya  - having presented; mahanti (they) delight in; vy - indeed; vrijinam - distress, affliction, misery; tarishyAmah - cross over; dAnyh - by giving gifts; nanBih - by boat; iva - like; arNavam - ocean;

In the giving the gifts to worthy brahmins with trust we delight and cross over this calamity. With gifts like a boat through ocean.


Sree Suka uvAca - Sree Suka said:

evam Bagavata AdishtA yAdavAh kurunandana I
gantum krita dhiyah tIrham syandanAn samayUujam II

evam - in this way; BagavatA - by Sri Krishna; AdishtA - instructed; yAdavAh - yAdavAs; kurunandana - sons of the Kurus; gantum - to move, set forth or set out; krita - made up; dhiyam - mind; tIrtham - holy place of bathing; syandanAn - chariots; samayUujam - made ready, prepared;

Thus instructed by Sree Krishna, yadavas having made up their mind to move, prepared chariots to set forth to the holy bathing place.

 

Sloka 41


tAn nirIkshya udhdhavah rAjan SritvA Bagavata uditam I
drishtvA arishtAni ghorANi nityam krishnam anuvratah II

tAn - them; nirIkshya - having looked at; uddhavah - Uddhava; rAjan - O King; SritvA - having heard; BagavatA - by Sri Krishna; uditam - uttered; drishtvA - having seen; arishtAni - unlucky omens; ghorANi - frightful, horrible; nityam - daily, constantly, ever; krishnam - of Sri Krishna; anuvratah - devoted to, attached to;

O King Uddhava, devoted to Sree Krishna having seen those frightful unlucky omens every day and having heard what was said by the lord.

 

Sloka 42


vivikta upasamgamya jagatAm Iswara Iswaram I
praNamya SirasA pAdau prAnjalih tam aBAshata II

vivikta - along, single; upasamgamya - having approached; jagatAm - of the universe; Iswara - lord of; Iswaram - the lord, Sri Krishna; praNamya - having bowed down; SirsA - by his head; pAdau - two feet; prAnjalih - holding open hands cupped as a mark of respect and humility; tam - to him; aBAshata - said;

Meeting Sri Krishna alone, having howed down to head and prAnjali said to him

 

Sloka 43


deva deveSa yogeSa puNya SravaNa kIrtana I
samhritya etat kulam nUnam lokam samtya kshyate BavAn II

 


vipra SApamsamarthah api pratyahanna yat Iswarah 

deva deveSa- lord of the Lords; yogeSa - master of yoga; puNya - holy, auspicious; SravaNa - hearing; kIrtana - praised; samhritya - having drawn back, destroyed; etat - this; kulam - clan; nUnam - indeed, now then; lokam - world; samtryakshyate - will withdraw from; BavAn - you;

Oh Lord of auspicious hearing and praising, you, having withdrawn this clan will withdraw from world. Even though you are capable did not oppose the curse of sages.

Sloka 44


na aham tava anghri yugalam kshaNa artham api kesava I
tyaktum samutsahe nAtha svadhAma naya mAm api II

na  - not; aham - I; tava - your; anghri - feet; yugalam - pair, couple; kshaNam - moment; artham - half; api - even; kesava - Keshava, Krishna; tyaktum - to free myself; sanutsahe - bear, be able to endure; nAtha - Lord, Master; svadhAma - to your abode; naya - lead, take, conduce; mAm - me; api - also;

I cannot bear to be free from your pair of feet for even a half a moment. Please take me also to your abode.

 

Sloka 45


tava vikrIditam krishna riNAm parama mangalam I
karNa pIyUsham AsAdya tyajati anya sprihAm janah II

tava - your; vikrIditam - playing; krishna - lord Krishna; nriNAm - people, mankind; parama - highest; mangalam - auspicious, welfare; karNa - of ears; pIyUsham - nectar, drink of immortality; AsAdya - having attained, having accessed; tyajanti - (they) abandon; anya - other; sprihAm - pleasure, delight, longing for, eager, desire; janAh - people;

Your playing in this world O Krishna is th highest auspiciousness and welfare which is nectar to the ears people never abandon.


Sloka 46


sayyA atanA Asana sthAna snAna krIdA aSana Adishu I
Katham tvAm priyam AtmAnam vayam BaktAhatyajemahi II

 


sayya - couch; atanA - roaming and wandering about; Asana - sitting down; sthAna - standing firmly, snAna - bathing, ablution; krIda - playing; aSanA - eating; Adishu - and in others following; katham - how; tvAm - you; priyam - beloved, dear to; AtmAnam -the Lord; vayam - we; BaktAh - devotees; tyajemahi - leave;

In resting, wandering, sitting down, standing up, bathing, playing, eating and other actions, how we  devotees leave you our dear Lord.

 

Sloka 47


tvaya upaBukta srag gandhavAsah alamkAra carcitAh I
ucchishTa Bojanah dAsAh tava mAyAm jayemahi II

tvaya - by you; upaBukta - used, enjoyed; srag - garland, chaplet; gandha - fragrant substance, scent; vAsah - perfume; alankAra - decoration; carcitAh - smeared with, covered with; ucchishTa - left over; Bojanah - food; dAsAh - devotees; tava - your; mAyAm - wisdom, power; jayemahi - win over, overcome;


Your devotees using the left overs by you of garlands, smells and perfumes and decorations, your servants they win over nature.


Sloka 48


vAta aSanA mahrshayah sramaNA Urdhvamanhrinah I
brahma Akhyam dhAma te yAnti SAntAh sanyAsinah amalAh II

vAta - air, wind; aSanA - eating; maharshyah - great sages, saints; SramaNA - sages of mortification, austerity; Urdhvamanthinah - living in chastity, abstinence; brahma - Brahmalokam; Akhya - named; dhAma - vykuntham; te - your; yAnti - reach, arrive at, approach; SantAh - those of subdued passions; sanyAsinah - ascetics, devotees; amalAh - pure;

The pure passionless ascetics and sages eating air and struggling with chastity reach your abode called Brahma (loka) or vykuntha.


Sloka 49


vayam tu iha mahA yogin Bramantah karma vartmasu I
tvat vArtayA tarishyAmah tAvakyh dustaram tamah II

vayam - we; tu - but; iha - in this world; mahAyogin - O Sree Krishna; Bramantah - waver, be perplexed; karma - religious acts, action, performance; vartmasu - in the course of, through; tvat - your; vArtayA - by your tidings; tarashyAmah - will overcome; tAvakyh - your, of your; dustaram- difficult to be endured; tamah - darkness, ignorance, illusion;

We, O Krishka, are perplexed performing our duties. We cross over this illusion by your tidings.

 

Sloka 50


smarantah kIrtayatah te kritAni gaditAni ca I
gatyutsmata IkshaNah utkeliyat nriloka vidambanam II

smarantah - recollecting, calling to mind; kIrtayantah - singing in praise; te - your; kritAni - deeds; gaditAni - sayings, speeches; ca - also; gati - movement, going away; utsmata - smiled at; IkshaNah - caring for, looking after; utkeli - great sport, great play; yat - which; nriloka - the world of men, earth; vidambanam - acting like;

Remembering and recollecting, singing in praise of  deeds and sayings and your going away smiling at and caring for the world is a great play acting by you.

evam vijnapitah rAjam BagavAn devakI sutah I
ekAntinam priyam Brityam Uddhavam samaBAshata II

evam - thus; vignApitah - requested; BagavAn - Sree Krishna; devakIsutah - son of Devaki; ekAntinam - devoted to Krishna; priyam - dear, attached; Brityam - one who is to be cared for; Uddhavam - Uddhava; samaBAshata - had told;

Thus requested, Lord Sri Krishna, Son of Devaki had told to his devoted attached and dear Uddhava.
